DAILY POST CHALLENGE

CRANKY LADY CRANKING AGAIN. Topic #324:Explain your strategy for life. Why are you here? What do you hope to achieve? What matters most to you, at work, at play, or at home? How did you come to develop your approach to living? Which parents, friends, aliens or spirits influenced your choices about how to live?

Why not just ask us to write a 500 page autobiography?  Sheesh.

Okay rant over and challenge become. Can I answer this in less than 600 words.

Strategy for life:  Live the mission.  The mission: Live the Golden Rule.  Live it so at the end of your life you will have made the world a bit better, not just for you and those you love but for all creatures large and small.

Why are you here?  One, to do the above; two to use the talents I have been given; three to enjoy all I have been given.

What do you hope to achieve? See the above, add three goals:  Inspire my grandchildren;  grow my blog; finish my novel. Would not mind increasing my income in the process of the lat two.

What matters most to you, at work, at play, or at home?  For all three, same answer: the mission acted out by caring behavior.

How did you come to develop your approach to living?  Parents who taught me to care for people and nature.  Growing up poor than most with pride.  A family that took in the wounded and maimed.  Freedom and unstructured time as a child . Lonely childhood.   My struggles with a learning disability, which also made me question my self,  but also others.  A love of reading despite the learning disability.  A year in bed with rheumatic fever.  Finally finding friends in Junior High School.  Horses and a task master of a writing instructor.  Stir in some wonderful teachers beginning in elementary school up to the end of graduate school.  Most influence a Quaker-Jew Buddhist–Bernard Phillips, he blew my mind open.  Then finding a job that brought me in touch daily with people of courage, people many others looked down on.  All my other  jobs including being asked to teach at a major university.  Being part of the sexual revolution. not marrying until in my mid-thirties.  Converting to Judaism.  Thank you Rabbi Riskin.  Marrying a man who pushed me to be all I could be.  Thank you David.  Becoming a parent.  Becoming a foster parent–living and learning from 366 teens who lived with us as members of our family–we offered short-term care. Being hyperactive and not needing lots of sleep.  Being an early user of computers and the internet.  Allowed me to write two books, keep in touch with old friends, make new ones., expand my mind. All my jobs.  The historical events taking place around me during my life: the wars, the Civil Rights movement,  the women’s liberation movement the prosperity and now the current crisis.  Last but first in my heart, my kids all grown up and wanting my advice and giving me the privilege of being a hands-on grandparent.

Which parents, friends, aliens or spirits influenced your choices about how to live? Didn’t I just answer that?

Okay done in less than 600 words.  Wonder if it makes any sense to anyone but me.
