Topic #74: Read through first – then do.
Close your eyes. Count to ten. Then imagine a beautiful ancient castle (tastefully remodeled to include central heating, kick-ass wi-fi and WordPress.com ready laptops everywhere). Now walk down the endless main hall, a hall filled with amazing rooms of wonder. Go into the 2nd room on the right. What’s inside?
First the castle is not a castle, but the Winter Quarters where Merlin the Wizard spent his youth as described in my slowly developing novel, Merlin and Meredyth. Hidden deep in the hills of Wales, the quarter’s main building resembles the great hall of War Lord, but is actually a meeting place, dining hall, Jewish Shul and pagan temple all in one. large room. Seated around a huge table filled with platters of roasted lamb, quail, and duck, a pot holding a stew of vegetables cooked in mead and honey, water cress and leek salad, flat breads, honey cakes, and goblets filled with mead, ale, and wine, are T.H. White, Lord Alfred Tennyson, Mary Stewart, Marion Bradley, Simone de Beauvoir, Marilyn French, my husband, sons and their mates, my grandsons, other family member, and various friends. All applaud as I enter.
Oprah is also there and rushes forward to lead to my seat. The dinner has been arranged by her to celebrate the fact that my novel has become the first electronic self published book to top all other books on the NYTimes best seller list. Oprah takes some credit as she has been an early promoter of the novel. My seat is throne-like and I let go of all modesty and thoroughly enjoy the accolades from my favorite authors and friends.
