One loss for me in our many moves was  all the Legos my kids and I enjoyed playing with.  I saved them for years, but in one move or another they vanished.  Building things was for the kids fun and  learning; for me it was working at 3D puzzles and exercising my brain.  It taught lots of skills, but was also lots of fun.  This article uses play for increasing interest in science.  Just make sure it stays play for the kids. what we enjoy is what we pursue.
